Whenever I have long weekend, Monday always seems to sneak up on me. Since I don’t have to work today, I almost forgot to get an image ready!
This is one that I had worked on, but decided to hang on to since everyone was posting from the sunset here at Bombay Beach. This pier reminded me of Minas Tirith from Lord of the Rings, so I decided to keep with the theme for the title of the shot. Instead of Frodo and Sam in Mordor at the ‘End of All Things’ (cue awesome music), it was me and my buddy Mike Olbinski shooting the sunset (Yeah, I’m a nerd, deal with it
). He was shooting the pier straight on (check out his version here…) and I kept moving in on his territory for my shot. I got close enough to the post sticking out so that I wasn’t in his shot and waited for the sky to turn these fantastic colors! I actually had my new Marumi 3 stop ND filter so I would get more of a reflection in the water and originally planned on tone-mapping this image. In the end, I decided to go with the since image and think it turned out better than expected.
I had also grabbed a shot of Mike before setting up and thought I should post that along with this image. I processed that shot using the VSCOFilm presets that have literally changed my life when it comes to my post processing…

This rocks. GReat color in that sky. What a creepy place…especially with Olbinski there.
Great shots Chris. While the one of Mike is very good I love your first shot

That’s a very cool shot man. Love the location you found to take it. Lots of vantage points on Bombay, that’s a good one!
